How I Am Building My Speaking Platform From Scratch and Why Now Is the Right Time

I want to be honest with you about something. I am not writing this from the other side of a fully built speaking career. I am in the middle of it right now. Putting myself in rooms, getting clear on my message, and doing the real work of stepping into the speaker I know I am meant to be. And I am sharing it because I know there are women who need to hear that starting from zero is not the same as starting from nothing.

Because here is what I know about myself. I have been speaking my whole life. I host a podcast where I have real conversations with women doing real things. I built Women for the Culture and showed up consistently for a community of 30,000 women with my voice. I wrote a children's book that came from my most personal story, and I have shared it publicly. I have been communicating, connecting, and moving people for years. The stage is just the next room. And I am ready for it.

What I am learning is that getting booked to speak is less about having a long list of past engagements and more about being clear on what you bring to a room. Event planners do not only book people who have been on a hundred stages. They book people whose message fits their audience, whose story is compelling, and who they trust to show up and deliver. That is a game I can play. That is a game any woman with a real story and real knowledge can play.

I am also learning that you have to make yourself findable before you can be bookable. A speaker page on your website. A media kit that tells your story clearly. Topics that are specific enough that someone can picture exactly what their audience would get from hearing you speak. I have been building all of that because I know that the opportunities I want will not come from waiting. They will come from being ready when someone goes looking.

And I am learning that the women who build speaking careers do not do it by being perfect. They do it by being willing to start before everything is in place. To say yes to the small room before the big one. To treat every conversation and every platform as practice. I have been doing that for years without calling it what it was. Now I am calling it what it is. I am a speaker. And I am just getting started.
